'Emily in Paris' Returns Tomorrow: Here Are 5 Big Things to Remember (2024)

Warning: This article summarizes past events in the show and contains spoilers. Season 4, part 1 debuts Aug. 15.

Emily in Paris, the fashion-forward, love-triangle-heavy, easily consumable comedy-drama, is strutting into its fourth season on Netflix.

The story will pick up after the season 3 finale and Gabriel and Camille's chaotic engagement party. (Have no idea what I'm talking about? I've included what you need to know below.) The season will catch audiences up with Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), the social media connoisseur and American still living in Paris.

Season 4 will see the return of Emily's best friend, the talented singer Mindy (Ashley Park), along with her always-confident boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), reasonably upset love interest Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and the charming chef and father-to-be Gabriel (Lucas Bravo).

Season 3 of Emily in Paris premiered in December 2022. If you want a refresher on events you binged more than a year and a half ago, grab an Instagrammable dessert and sit down with this recap. Netflix has released the first 5 minutes of season 4, part 1, and you can watch it here on the streamer's Tudum site.

Emily in Paris season 4 release dates

Want to stream the fourth season of Emily in Paris? Like a protagonist torn between a pair of love interests, you'll need to make time for two dates. Episodes should hit Netflix at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT.

  • Episodes 1 to 5: Aug. 15
  • Episodes 6 to 10: Sept. 12

What to remember before season 4

In Emily in Paris' first season, the titular character moves from Chicago to Paris after her employer -- the Gilbert Group -- acquires the luxury marketing company Savoir.

In season 3, Emily grapples with the choice between sticking with her Gilbert Group mentor, Madeline, or joining Sylvie and her French peers, who quit Savoir in the season 2 finale. She tries and fails to simultaneously do both. Ultimately, Emily opts to stay in Paris over returning to Chicago with Madeline and lands at Agence Grateau with her old Savoir pals.

While Emily may have sorted out her employment situation, many things that happened in season 3 still need to be wrapped up in a ringard bow. Here are five essential details to remember before you stream season 4, part 1.

The engagement party catastrophe

Season 3 was eventful for Camille and Gabriel. They quickly went from having a strained relationship -- while Camille ghosted Gabriel in Greece -- to getting engaged to spontaneously deciding to get married at their engagement party. Also, Camille went to Greece because of the artist Sofia, who she's more than just friends with.

During the last leg of that dramatic series of events (the unplanned wedding), Camille told Gabriel she couldn't marry him because she knew that he and Emily love each other. She also caught him up on Emily's pact with her not to date him. And yes, all of this happened at the altar.

Unsurprisingly, Emily's boyfriend Alfie felt like a second choice and walked away from Emily.

In the trailer for season 4, part 1, Emily says she's single. Is the ambiguous ending a sign that she'll stay that way this season?

A pregnancy shake-up

One more twist arrived at the end of the finale. During Gabriel and Emily's private chat, Gabriel revealed to Emily that Camille is pregnant. She cut her Greece trip short, not for their relationship's sake, but to tell him the big news.

In the trailer for part 1, Emily mentions that she's the only one who knows about the baby (she's talking to Mindy, who, of course, knows too). Despite the Emily-Camille-Gabriel love triangle getting even more complicated, Emily has yet to say au revoir to the chef, so fans who want to see Emily and Gabriel end up together have that reason to watch.

The Eurovision Song Contest

Season 3 introduced Nicolas from the conglomerate JVMA, a new love interest for Mindy outside of her boyfriend and bandmate Benoît. Emily pitched a song Benoît wrote for Mindy -- Mon Soleil -- to Nicolas as a potential track for a commercial, but Benoît had other plans for the tune.

In the season 3 finale, Benoît surprised Mindy -- who he was no longer with -- and revealed that he'd secretly submitted the song to the Eurovision Song Contest. It was picked for the competition, which should translate to more Mindy musical performances in season 4. The finale also confirmed lingering feelings between Mindy and Benoît, who seem like they might kiss before Mindy gets a call from Nicolas.

Gabriel's Michelin Star dreams

In season 3, Gabriel set his sights on a Michelin Star and experienced some success. He negotiated with Antoine and Antoine's now-CFO Alfie, who offered the hardworking chef a stake in the restaurant. Gabriel cranked up the posh factor and changed the eatery's name from Chez Lavaux to L'Esprit de Gigi after his grandmother Gigi.

In the finale, Emily's co-worker Luc contacted his ex-girlfriend, a Michelin inspector. Long story short, L'Esprit de Gigi impressed her, and she discreetly told Luc the restaurant was on the way to a Michelin star. Luc relayed the sentiment to a pre-wedding-disaster Emily and Gabriel, who were ecstatic.

Julien is fed up

Emily's spotlight-stealing in front of clients increasingly bothered her colleague Julien in season 3. After Emily hijacked one of his pitches in the season 3 finale, he appeared to respond to an email offering him employment elsewhere. Julien is a longtime part of the Paris marketing dream team, so it would be sad to see him dump Agence Grateau for a competitor.
